TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - All Saints Episcopal Church and the Tupelo-Lee County Hunger Coalition handed out sandwiches, water and fruit to those in need on Friday.
Both organizations, with the help of other organizations, volunteered to pitch in after the Salvation Army's kitchen started renovations.
The Salvation Army is not able to serve the daily usual 200 people.
Local organizations stepped in to make sure those in need have a chance for at least two meals a day.
"It's very very, very important because it is a shortage of funding and financing in which we wouldn't eat lunch if it wasn't for these people," Brenda Weaber said.
Hannah Maharrey of the Hunger Coalition in Tupelo said this will last for the rest of July and possibly through August.
