TUPELO, Miss (WTVA) - Dr. Phillip Huq, works in the coronavirus unit at North Mississippi Medical Center. Dr. Huq said getting a second dose Wednesday means he can finally see his parents after one year.
Huq said he has seen so much death and heartbreak since the pandemic began. He’s glad to finally see some hope.
"Until this vaccine came, none of the medicine, none of the drugs, none of the ventilators, and everything else gave the assurance that we would be able to save you for sure,” he said.
System Chief Medical Officer, Jeremy Blanchard said 40 percent of medical workers at the hospital received the vaccine so far.
Dr. Blanchard said people are already immune to the virus by the time they get a second dose. The second dose makes sure they are protected even longer.
Blanchard added, people can still get the coronavirus after getting vaccinated, but now they have the tools to fight it.
