ABERDEEN, Miss. (WTVA) -- Opening a business in the middle of a pandemic may seem quite daunting. However, one business in Monroe County accepted the challenge.
“With the COVID like it is, it’s been a little slow, but we have endured it,” Angie Gates said.
Gates is owner of The Coffee Mug, a restaurant/coffee shop in Aberdeen on Main Street.
She said the business opened its doors on August 10th. She explained the business is taking safety measures, and workers are doing whatever they can to keep people safe during the pandemic.
“We have masks also here if somebody didn’t have one, they can get one of ours, we offer those to them, and gloves also if they needed those,” Gates said.
“We have sanitizer that we spray on the tables and we wash each table down after a customer leaves. and we wash the chairs, we spray the chairs.”
For customers still not comfortable going out, Gates said not to worry. The Coffee Mug offers curbside pickup.
To order curbside, Gates said people can call ahead.
Kim Taylor is co-owner and cook. She said the family has put so much effort and dedication into this business, and seeing it succeed means a lot.
Gates said the coffee shop is an inviting place that is welcome to all.
“It’s just a friendly environment, and we want it to be that way,” Gates said.
