TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - The Lee County Sheriff's Department sent out a press release Tuesday afternoon linking recent arrests in the county to a recent raid.
Lee County removed this "tent city" from the Auburn community on July 22.
Below is the statement from Sheriff Jim Johnson:
"The recent arrest by the Shannon Police Department involving storage unit burglaries provided us information that led our office to search a residence in southwest Lee County. During the search the Lee County Sheriff Department recovered several items linking these suspects to storage unit burglaries in numerous cities and counties. The investigation by the Lee County Sheriff Department has revealed that the people taken into custody were some of the same individuals that were living into the so called “Tent City” in the Auburn Community. The recent efforts by the Auburn Community and law enforcement lead to these individuals to leave the Auburn area and a resident in Shannon allowed them to live there. This location in Shannon is where this search took place. Multiple agencies are involved in this investigation and it will take some time to complete.
There are 5 individuals of interest in custody and being held at the Lee County Sheriff’s Department in regards to this matter
This investigation is still in its early stages and a full press release will be made at later date."
