TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - The Lee County Sheriff's Department is challenging parents to encourage their kids to walk up and meet a deputy when they see one.
Sheriff Jim Johnson announced the " Sheriff Johnson's July Challenge" on Facebook Wednesday.
In the post, Sheriff Johnson said this is a great opportunity to teach kids that they have a lot in common law enforcement.
He hopes his challenge will help calm the fears kid’s may have of deputies.
“We teach them at a young age that law enforcement are really people that are there to help them, that are people you can go to," he said
Sheriff Johnson also said that deputies will take pictures and give junior deputy stickers to each child they meet.
