TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - The Lee County School Board proposed the building of a career and technical education center.
Lee County voters with either approve or vote against the $15 million bond issue on Jan. 14, 2020. The bond will not cause an increase in taxes.
Charla Creel (middle) teaches at Saltillo High School.
The Hive is the proposed construction site. The Hive is an industrial park located southwest of Tupelo.
The building would have classrooms and laboratories, and it would house approximately eight programs of study, ranging from health science to agriculture.
Career and Technical Education Director Amy Johnson said the need for career-based programs is growing every day.
She said a centralized location would prevent students from having to travel elsewhere.
The center would also provide partnerships with local industries.
Johnson hopes this will draw more students to stay in Lee County after graduating.
