ABERDEEN, Miss. (WTVA) - Shots were fired in an Aberdeen neighborhood Friday night.

Sheriff Cecil Cantrell says the shooting happened on Cardinal Lane near Darracott Road before 7 p.m.

The sheriff says Eric Bell tried to cut another man's throat after a night of drinking in Aberdeen.

He says the victim then shot at Bell twice in defense but missed.

Cantrell says Bell ran but then returned back to the scene.

That's when law enforcement realized Bell robbed a Texaco gas station in the midst of them looking for him.

Bell was on parole during the incident.

He faces charges of public intoxication, assault and shoplifting.
