JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) — A man convicted of kidnapping and sexual battery in Alcorn County escaped from law enforcement, and officers are now trying to find him.
That man is Garnett Hughes, 33, who was sentenced in 2014 to life in prison.
A spokeswoman for the East Mississippi Correctional Facility said officers were escorting him to the funeral of a family member in Belzoni when he got away from them.
This happened around 9:30 a.m. Friday.
Alcorn County Sheriff Ben Caldwell said there is no information that Hughes is in the county or would return to the county.
However, he asked anyone who sees him to call the sheriff's office at 662-286-5521.
