TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Members of the Tupelo Homeless Task Force recalled how the winter weather impacted the homeless community and how the task force and others provided aid.
Hannah Maharrey said the winter weather and bitterly cold temperatures hit the homeless community hard
"We knew kind of early on that with all the forecasts that had come in that the weather was going to get pretty intense," she said.
She said the task force visited homeless individuals to inform them of shelter to escape the cold.
The local Salvation Army provided shelter.
Sara Ekiss of Mississippi United to End Homelessness said the group provided financial aid and place five individuals in apartments within the past two weeks.
