MILLPORT, Ala. (WTVA) - Lamar County students returned to school Monday after their school closed last week to prevent the spread of the flu.
School Superintendent Vance Herron said 400 students at South Lamar School did not attend school last Tuesday. Twenty-two percent of students countywide missed that day.
Hundreds of South Lamar students missed last week due to sickness.
As a result, students were excused from school Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
South Lamar Principal Lisa Wright said a crew cleaned the school while the students were away.
She said 52 students missed school Monday.
Debbie Hayes said three of her grandchildren caught the flu last week. She is happy they recovered without having to miss school.
District administrator Scott Walker said approximately 10 percent of students missed Monday across the county.
