LAMAR COUNTY, Ala.(WTVA) - Residents and students in Sulligent, Alabama, lined the streets to welcome home John Corbell.
The 15-year-old was in Nashville since April recovering from a heart transplant.
"It was awesome," said he said. "I just thought that you can't really get this from a big city, only small towns that are as close as family."
Sulligent High School and the communities of Vernon and South Lamar have raised about $55,000 to help the family.
"It has been overwhelming since day one the support that we've had," added Sabrina Corbell, John's mother. "They’ve continued to support us while we've been in Nashville."
Sabrina hopes their story will encourage others to be organ donors.
"Without it, he wouldn't be here," said Sabrina. "It is definitely the gift of life."
