WEST POINT, Miss. (WTVA)— As Clay County students prepare to go back to school, one group is making sure students have a successful school year.
The Junior Auxiliary in West Point is collecting school supplies for its annual Stuff the Bus event.
Crosby Miller, Schools Chair of the Junior Auxiliary, and Cheryl Harris, president of the Junior Auxiliary, said community meme era can drop off items at three locations:
- Dollar General Highway (50 East)
- Walmart
- CVS
The drive ends on Saturday, August 1.
Junior Auxiliary members will distribute the supplies to schools in the area.
Harris said the pandemic had an impact on their school supply drive this year.
“The parents, the families, the schools literally everyone has been affected in so many ways,” she said.
Junior Auxiliary members cannot accept soft items like uniforms or backpacks.
Miller said that’s because soft items can hold germs.
Instead, Harris said as more students are choosing to do virtual learning, items like headphones are accepted this year.
Miller said every year the drive has a huge impact on students and families.
“It’s so important for our students to know that there are people who want them, want to see them be successful,” she said.
