IUKA, Miss. (WTVA) - An Iuka couple faces drug and theft charges in Tishomingo County.
On September 25, Tishomingo County deputies conducted a traffic stop on Highway 25 in Iuka due to ongoing complaints of thefts in the area.
Tishomingo County Sheriff John Daugherty says Richard Hammett, 30, fled on foot and ran into his house. He was found hiding in the bathroom.
Antonette Hodel, 40, remained in the vehicle and was detained.
While inside the house, officers found several bags of alleged meth as well as some items which were reported stolen.
Both were arrested and transported to the county jail.
The sheriff says Hammett had an arrest warrant out for him by the Mississippi Department of Corrections for a probation violation in DeSoto County.
Investigators later learned where Hammett allegedly took some of the stolen items. A victim was able to recover a large portion of their stolen items.
The items included assorted steel parts, machines, antique farm items and cylinders. The items’ value was estimated at $9,600.
Hammett is charged with felony possession of meth and grand larceny. He’s also wanted in Tennessee, DeSoto County and Corinth.
