IUKA, Miss. (WTVA) - A New Orleans, Louisiana, man is accused of burglarizing a store in Tishomingo County.
Tishomingo County Sheriff John Daugherty said a Belmont police officer came upon Collins Woods walking along Highway 366 on Nov. 14.
Woods told the officer he was out jogging, the sheriff said. The officer recognized Woods as a student at Itawamba Community College (ICC).
The police officer continued on and learned the Golden Mini-Mart had been broken into.
Law enforcement officers contacted ICC where faculty members managed to locate Woods on campus and directed him to return to Tishomingo County.
The sheriff said Woods returned and admitted to deputies he tried to break into the convenience store.
Investigators charged Woods, 20, with commercial burglary.
ICC released the following statement to WTVA 9 News:
“As we would with any student, ICC worked alongside the authorities to locate the student they were looking for. The student was previously a member of the football team but is no longer associated with ICC athletics. Additional questions should be referred to the Tishomingo County Sheriff’s Department.”
