HOUSTON, Miss. (WTVA) - Houston police are searching for those involved in a fatal Monday night shooting.
Police Chief Billy Voyles said police received a call before 9 p.m. about a man lying in the street with a gunshot wound. Officers then responded to Martin Luther King Drive.
Voyles did not release any names; however, he said a man and his step-daughter from Tallahatchie County were in the area to buy a car. He added that it was a car from a seller that they connected with on social media and spoke with for nearly a week.
When the man and his step-daughter arrived in Houston, the so-called seller shot the man. Voyles said a few others then hit the victim in the head with a bat.
The chief said the man died shortly after police arrived. His step-daughter was in the car during the fatal shooting.
Police are searching for the shooter and more arrests are expected.
Chickasaw County Coroner Michael Fowler later identified the victim as Robert Cox, 40, of Cascilla.
