HOUSTON, Miss. (WTVA) - Houston mayoral candidate Sean Johnson is out of the election race.
The City of Houston provided the following statement to WTVA Tuesday afternoon:
"On April 19, 2021, the Houston Municipal Election Commission did not certify Sean Johnson’s Candidate Petition for Independent Candidate for Mayor due to insufficient completion of his paperwork."
Johnson provided the following statement to WTVA:
“The decision by the Houston Election Commission to disqualify my candidacy for the mayor of Houston due to 'insufficient paperwork' was wholly determined by opinion, rather than law. While I have been informed that I do have grounds to contest their decision in court, I am choosing not to do so, but rather to continue my work in improving Houston as a private citizen.”
Incumbent Stacey Parker is the sole remaining candidate.
