HOUSTON, Miss. (WTVA) - The Houston School District received its shipment of new laptops for students to use for the rest of the school year.
Students in grades 5 through 12 will receive the new Google Chromebooks to use at school as well as at their homes.
However, there are some steps that students and parents are required to take before they are able to pick up the new laptops.
"We have some videos put together that we are requiring parents to watch before they are able to check out the Chromebooks," John Ellison said.
Ellison is currently the principal at Houston High School but will assume the role of the school district superintendent later this year.
Once checked out, a single Chromebook will be used by one student.
"That student will keep that device, and in the summertime, they will turn that computer back in."
The same student will receive the same laptop for use the following year if needed.
"Now they [students] have the capability to participate from home, it gives us the capability with them, even without internet, to be able to download things at school and take that home."
School staff will distribute the laptops on Nov. 12 and Nov. 13 in a curbside pick-up.
Students in 5-8 grades can pick up their devices at the middle school, and high school students will do the same at the high school.
