COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - Police said an armed robber sneaked into a Columbus home and forced the victim to withdraw cash from a nearby ATM.
The robbery happened early Sunday morning at a house on Seventh Street South.
“We are still very early in the investigation, but we do know that a Black male entered the house through an unlocked garage door,” Columbus Police Chief Fred Shelton said. “The homeowner was then instructed to take the suspect to a local ATM machine to withdraw cash. The victim complied and once some money was withdrawn, the suspect was dropped off in the 500 block of 5th Avenue South.”
The robber is described as a thin Black man in his 20s. He wore dark clothes and a maroon gaiter over his face.
Investigators have requested surveillance footage from nearby homes in the quest to identify the robber.
