PONTOTOC, Miss. (WTVA) The effects of the heavy rain is still causing problems around North Mississippi.
In Pontotoc, one road is closed for the safety of the traveling public. Off of Highway 41 coming off of Highway 15 the shoulder on the road fell two to three feet. Since Thursday afternoon, cars detoured around the area to get to their location.
"We're moving at the moment," local resident Misty Shettles said. "We live on this road and so we do take this road a lot."
The road is a main road in Pontotoc that people use. Some travelers will need a different route for the next few days.
"I definitely think it's a necessary road," Shettles said. "There are a lot of churches down this road so being able to come down this way would be helpful."
The District Maintenance Engineer, Matt Dunn got a call about highway 41. When he arrived, he noticed the road slipped right into the ditch. He said if the rain continues, the road could be a potential threat.
"With the shoulder slipped off for about two to three feet the road is now being in danger because there is no shoulder left to protect the roadway," Dunn said. "We are afraid if more rain comes in that we will see the roadway actually drop some more than it already has. So we are concerned about the safety of the traveling public.”
The road is currently closed, engineers from the central office in Jackson are expected to evaluate the road to get it reopened as soon as possible.
