Teen dies in shooting at Propst Park Activity Center in Columbus

A teenage girl died after an overnight shooting outside the Activity Center at Propst Park in Columbus.

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - A teenage girl died after an overnight shooting outside a sweet 16 party at the activity center at Propst Park in Columbus.

Columbus Fire Department's water rescue team searching Luxapalila Creek

Multiple emergency responders at Propst Park in Columbus

Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant identified her as Arykah Patrice White, 16. 

According to Merchant, White died at the park after shots were fired.

The state will do an autopsy on her early this week.

Columbus Police Chief Fred Shelton said officers are still looking for the shooter.

UPDATE 07/21/19 10:05 a.m.

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - The water rescue team for the Columbus Fire Department appeared to be searching Luxapalila Creek near Propst Park Sunday morning after a shooting outside the park's Activity Center during the night.

There was no official word if the apparent search had anything to do with the shooting, but police were there with the search team.  Fire Officer Anthony Colom said firefighters are assisting the police. 

Police have not released any additional information since confirming there was a shooting, which was reported in a 911 call at 11:35 p.m. Saturday night.

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) -- Police officers, sheriff's deputies and firefighters have showed up at Propst Park in Columbus after a shooting at the Activity Center.

A call for emergency responders was made just minutes before midnight Saturday.

Chief Fred Shelton said the shooting was on the lower level.

An ambulance was seen leaving the park with one person inside of it.
