According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded Wednesday to a home on County Road 417 to perform a welfare check.
Both Fisher and Gebhart live at the address.
Deputies and investigators made several more trips to the home following the initial report and in the following days.
Each time, both suspects repeatedly denied having a newborn child and claimed Gebhart was still pregnant, according to the sheriff’s department.
On Thursday night, deputies again responded to the home after receiving more information and found an infant child who appeared to be in need of immediate medical help.
Medics transported the baby to the hospital in Tupelo where the child is receiving medical care.
Investigators determined the child was born on Nov. 2 at the home with no medical help or attention for the child before or after the birth.
According to the sheriff’s department, the charges stem from the child’s “desperate medical condition” and the “deplorable living situation.”
