POPLARVILLE, Miss. (Picayune Item) — A police chief in Mississippi says one of his officers who was involved in a fiery crash during a chase was saved by a good Samaritan that pulled him out of his burning patrol car.
Poplarville Chief Danny Collier tells the Picayune Item that Officer J.D. Herring clocked a vehicle going 50 mph over the speed limit late Tuesday night.
Herring chased the vehicle until it drove out of sight. Then, he hit a gravel driveway and crashed. A nearby resident pulled Herring from the cruiser as it erupted in flames.
Herring broke his leg and needed stitches but is expected back at work in a month or two.
