AMORY, Miss. (WTVA) — Seven elected officials in Monroe County jumped to the Republican Party, a significant shift since many local officials there win elections as Democrats.
Five of the seven are county officials: Sheriff Kevin Crook, Coroner Alan Gurley and Supervisors Joseph Richardson, Rubel West and B.R. Richey.
The other two are Amory Aldermen Buddy Carlisle and Tony Poss.
Those county officials won't know for a few years what effect the party switch will have on their political futures.
However, the aldermen will find out next year since Amory holds its elections in 2021.
