OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) - State and local law enforcement officers arrested Brandon Theesfeld on Monday for the murder of Ally Kostial.
After Theesfeld's initial court hearing, his father went on record and said he knows his son is innocent.
Neighbors who know Theesfeld said that's exactly what his father would do.
"Being somebody who I knew was capable of this is even more shocking. He was pretty much a daddy's boy type. He constantly had to reference his father's money, how his dad could get him out of anything," a former neighbor said.
However, others who hung out with Theesfeld said they are not sure what to believe.
"I've always met with him, and he's always been a gentleman, been kind, and just an overall goofy dude. Hearing these things about him, it just makes you scared and makes you not want to trust anyone you meet. It's like when your parents tell you when you're little never trust a stranger," said a friend of Theesfeld.
Friends of the victim spoke out about the person Kostial was.
"She was probably one of the most positive people I met honestly. She always had a smile on her face," Lauren Miller said.
Miller and Kostial met in middle school. Miller said Kostial shared her positivity with everyone around her.
"Her best piece of advice she ever gave to me was not being afraid to be myself," Miller said.
She said it's shocking that she'll never get to see Kostial again.
Her body was found near Sardis Lake on Saturday.
"I never would have pictured him or anyone doing something like this, but with the way that he treated women and his attitude towards women, in general, it didn't surprise me," said a former neighbor.
Surveillance video of Kostial in Oxford on Friday was the last time she was seen.
Lafayette County sheriff's deputies found her body shot several times.
Miller said Kostial was a marketing major and had big dreams for her future.
"She loved kids so much, so I know she wanted to start a family of her own one day."
