TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Multiple foster and adoption organizations partnered with Chick-fil-A at Barnes Crossing for an awareness event.
The event was open to the public.
Families enjoyed food, fun and learned about the growing number of foster children.
Suzanne Walker, who is a foster parent, adopted seven siblings so they would not have to be split up.
Shakira Walker was one of the children adopted and said the process can be hard. Many children can be placed in homes they don’t fit well in or be separated from their siblings.
Walker said the number of foster children in the state has almost reached 5,000. The growing number is why they wanted to host the event and bring awareness.
