LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) - A former Lee County deputy is accused of falsifying official documents which caused the county to lose thousands of dollars.
The Lee County Sheriff's Department confirms a former employee has been arrested.
Michael Mayhew, 44, was booked into the Lee County jail around 1:45 Wednesday afternoon. He was later released on a $10,000 bond.
Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson says Mayhew was under investigation by the department but the Attorney General's Office has since taken over the case.
According to documents obtain from the Attorney General's Office, Mayhew is accused of falsifying his timesheets three times during the months of February, March and April in 2017.
Mayhew is charged with three counts of submitting fraudulent statments. The arrest was the result of a year-long investigation.
Johnson says Mayhew has not worked for the sheriff's department since early 2017.
