ECRU, Miss. (WTVA) - The former city clerk of Ecru entered an open guilty plea on Friday to embezzlement by a public official.
According to the state attorney general’s office, Gretchen Moody, 47, appeared in Pontotoc County Circuit Court on Friday.
A Pontotoc County grand jury indicted Moody in September 2017 on three counts of embezzlement by a public official.
The crimes happened between January 2012 and March 2016.
According to the attorney general’s office, Moody took the money that was being paid as fines and converted the money to her own use.
During the same time, she also made purchases for herself using the city of Ecru’s credit card and was giving herself extra paychecks, according to the attorney general’s office.
For count No. 1, she will spend 10 years in prison and five years on house arrest followed by five years of post-release supervision.
The judge suspended two 20-year sentences for the remaining two counts.
Moody must also pay back thousands of dollars in restitution.
