Firefighters respond to Columbus house fire

Two people were inside a home when a fire consumed their home in Columbus.

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - Two people were inside a home when a fire consumed their home in Columbus.

According to the Columbus Fire Department, the fire happened at 402 Waterworks Road.

The department says a child and mother were inside the house at the time of the blaze. Twelve people lived there.

The child was checked by paramedics for smoke inhalation. 

The house is deemed unlivable due to smoke/fire damage.

Fire marshals are investigating the cause.
