NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WTVA) - A wall outlet is believed to have started a fire in the Union County jail.

The fire happened Sunday sometime near 5 p.m.

Mark Whiteside with the New Albany Fire Department says firefighters were called to the jail for a fire in a rear holding pod.

When firefighters arrived, the inmates had been evacuated to another part of the jail.

He says the fire extinguished itself.
