SALTILLO, Miss. (WTVA) -- High school seniors and parents enjoyed a back-to-school party at Saltillo City Park on Thursday.
Around 6:30 p.m., seniors gathered for the night of fun that featured food, music, and snow cones from Snowie Shaved ice, water slides, slip-n-slide and other fun festivities.
Parents organized the event.
From what we saw, no seniors wore masks, and few adults did. Social distancing seemed non-existent.
Organizers did not want to speak with us on camera. One woman said they don’t want their seniors to miss out on memories.
She also referred to other past events including a prom in which they said no one came down with the coronavirus.
Under the mask mandate Governor Reeves issued Tuesday, outside venues are supposed to have no more than 20 people.
One woman said organizers received permission from the city to have the party based on the third bullet point under the “social gatherings” part of the executive order that allows for some exemptions on outdoor capacities.
A little after 7 p.m., another woman said there were 58 kids signed into the event.
