TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - The Lee County Coroner’s Office is investigating an accident at Cooper Tire that claimed the life of a contractor working there.
Coroner Carolyn Green confirmed the accident happened Tuesday.
The victim was pronounced dead upon arrival at the local emergency room early Tuesday afternoon.
The victim died from multiple trauma, she said.
An autopsy will be done.
Green will release the victim’s name at a later time.
Cooper Tire later issued the following statement:
"Safety is a top priority at Cooper facilities. There was an accident this afternoon involving an individual who is the employee of a contractor doing work in the Cooper Tupelo facility. The individual was transported immediately to a local hospital for medical care, and we have been notified that he has passed away. Our thoughts are with this individual and his family. The incident occurred in one department of the facility, and no other workers were injured. There is no ongoing risk to the workforce at the plant. The majority of the facility continues to operate as normal. No other information is available at this time."
