Family and friends prepare to say goodbye to Columbus police officer

Friends and family prepare to celebrate he life of Captain Stacey Deans.

SALTILLO, Miss. (WTVA) -- Family and friends prepare to celebrate the life of a Columbus police officer who passed away this week. 

Stacey Deans, 53, died Tuesday morning from natural causes at a Baldwyn nursing facility. 

Deans served with the Columbus Police Department as the head of the criminal investigation division since 2018. 

Columbus Mayor Robert Smith said Deans brought 25 years of law enforcement experience to the position. 

His funeral is scheduled at the Trotter Convention Center in Columbus on Tuesday at 2 p.m. 

Deans is survived by his wife and four children.
