BOONEVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - People gather to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice as a part of Peace Officer Memorial Day and Police Week.
One ceremony happened in Prentiss County.
In Columbus, a memorial service was held for all fallen officers and their families.
Columbus Police Chief Fred Shelton read the names of all 41 officers who have been killed on duty in the United States this year.
Included on that list was Robert McKeithen, the Biloxi police officer who was just laid to rest on Monday.
At the services, attendees sang songs, read scripture, shared prayer and reflected on the lost lives.
The Columbus Police Department lowered a flag in front of the police department to half staff to show their respect to the officers.
Shelton said it takes a very brave person to be a law enforcement officer.
