SALTILLO, Miss. (WTVA) - Saltillo will not have a tourism tax.
An election was held on Tuesday to determine the fate of the proposed tourism tax.
The tourism tax would have raised taxes by 2 percent on prepared food, beverages and hotels.
Saltillo residents voted against the tourism tax with 514 votes against it and 499 votes for it.
A 60 percent approval was needed to pass the proposal.
Money collected from the tourism tax would have been used toward economic development and parks and recreation.
