JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - Mississippi confirmed another person died as a result of the severe weather outbreak on Easter Sunday, bringing the death toll to 12.
According to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), the deaths happened in the following counties:
- Carroll – 1 death
- Jefferson Davis – 4 deaths
- Jones – 3 deaths
- Lawrence – 2 deaths
- Panola – 1 death
- Walthall – 1 death
Gov. Tate Reeves signed a state of emergency in response to the outbreak.
At least 30 counties submitted damage reports to MEMA, as of Tuesday, April 14.
Laurel resident Andrew Phillips posted pictures of the storm damage on his Facebook page. Laurel is located in Jones County. He said a storm shelter was the only thing that saved his family from the devastation.
