WEST POINT, Miss. (WTVA) - Police in West Point say the driver of an 18-wheeler died in a midday wreck on the south side of the city Monday.
It happened at the entrance of the Mossy Oak Outlet Mall on Highway 45 Alternate.
Chief Avery Cook says the 18-wheeler turned over while trying to turn.
Police say the tanker was carrying some type of hazardous material. Crews are working to remove the material and the tanker.
Traffic is moving freely again outside the outlet's entrance.
Police say the truck belonged to a company out of Demopolis, Alabama.
Clay County Coroner Alvin Carter, Jr. identifies the victim as Neil Hays, 49, of Leroy, Ala.
Carter says Hays struck another vehicle, crossed the highway's median and turned over at the entrance of the outlet mall.
An autopsy will be performed. Carter says a medical issue cannot be ruled out.
West Point police and the Clay County Coroner's Office are investigating.
