LACKEY, Miss. (WTVA) - The Lowndes County sheriff identified the man who fled from deputies and crashed in Monroe County.
A Lowndes County deputy tried to stop Christopher Whaley, 42 of Columbus, Monday afternoon on Highway 45 near the Columbus Air Force Base.

The sheriff’s office said Monday afternoon Whaley refused to stop.
According to a Tuesday news release from the sheriff’s office, the deputy tried to stop the vehicle for a speeding violation.
The chase continued north through Hamilton.
Whaley lost control and crashed on Lackey Road near New Prospect Road, which is located north of Hamilton in the Lackey community.
He was transported to the hospital in Columbus for non-life-threatening injuries and released.
The sheriff’s office charged Whaley with speeding, fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer, and DUI 1st offense.
