ALCORN COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) – A moderate drought is causing authorities to ask residents to use caution with controlled burns.
One such official is Alcorn County EMA Director and Fire Coordinator Ricky Gibens. He is cautioning residents of Alcorn County to not burn their trash.
Because of the dryer weather conditions, the land is burning too.
“Even though we’ve had a sprinkle here recently, it’s not nearly enough to take care of the drought conditions.”
Alcorn County reported six wildfires this week. Twenty acres burned in the count on Tuesday, December 12, threatening a nearby structure.
Authorities are stressing people to stay near controlled burns and don’t leave them alone.
