WEST POINT, Miss. (WTVA) - A crash injured two state transportation workers Thursday afternoon.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP), the three-vehicle crash happened at approximately 2 p.m. on U.S. Highway 45 Alternate.
MHP Staff Sgt. Derrick Beckom says a tractor-trailer pulling a mobile home collided with the rear of two vehicles, both belonging to the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT).
Both MDOT drivers were injured.
Medics airlifted one driver, 61-year-old Stanley Johnson, to the hospital in Tupelo.
Medics transported the other driver, 48-year-old Jonathan Wilcox, to the hospital in West Point.
MDOT spokesman Jace Ponder said the two men injured were part of a crew patching potholes on Highway 45 Alternate.
He said one of the trucks was equipped with a device designed to absorb impact in the event something similar occurs.
He said other members of the work crew were able to get out of the way and were not injured.
