TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) — Cooper Tire and Rubber, one of Lee County's top employers, will temporarily close its plant in Tupelo as well as plants across the country and in Mexico because of the coronavirus.
The tire maker said the process of closing those plants started Saturday and will go into the coming week.
Those plant closures are expected to last two to three weeks.
According to the Community Development Foundation, Cooper Tire and Rubber employs 1,625 people in Lee County, making it the county's second largest employer behind North Mississippi Health Services.
