TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Many people gathered in Tupelo to celebrate what would have been Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s 90th birthday.
The event was held at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Pastor Randy Jones was the keynote speaker.
Those who attended participated in singing, scripture and prayer.
The event was sponsored by Modern Beauticians. Event officials hope today's young people can learn the importance of coming together.
"Our young people don't know," President of the Modern Beauticians club Florine Nails said. "We need to work with them and instill in them the importance of coming out, getting together, fellowshipping and showing love."
The theme for this year's event was "Working together in unity for the growth and stability of the organization."
