COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - Recent Columbus Municipal School District Superintendent Philip Hickman is now out of a job.

School Board President Jason Spears says Hickman's contract was terminated at a special school board meeting Friday.

This was an immediate termination.

Hickman's contract was not going to be renewed following this school year.

However, when asked why Hickman was fired today, Spears said the school board reviewed information presented to them and decided to terminate the contract.

Specific reasons were not given.

Deputy Superintendent Craig Shannon is now the district's interim leader.
