COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - Police officers quickly arrested two suspects in connection to a weekend armed robbery in Columbus.
According to the Columbus Police Department, the robbery happened Saturday at approximately 10 p.m. in the 600 block of Sixth Street South.
One suspect is a juvenile. The other suspect is an adult from Columbus; police plan to release the adult’s name soon.
“The two suspects had previously cut the yard of the victim’s home,” Police Chief Fred Shelton said. “They knew the victims and came to the door, demanding money. No one was hurt in the incident, and the incident is still under investigation.”
Shelton said police officers made the arrests eight minutes after receiving the 911 call.
“I want to commend the excellent work of our officers and the 911 dispatchers for the apprehension of two suspects eight minutes after the call went out,” Shelton said. “The victims on the scene provided an excellent description, and the responding officers got the information to others quickly. Per our standard procedure, other officers began searching the area and captured the suspects about five blocks away.”
