COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - The suspect in the Cracker Barrel shooting in Columbus is under arrest.
Police Chief Fred Shelton said Robert Beck, 28, was taken into custody during a traffic stop early Saturday by the Tennessee Highway Patrol near Cookeville.
Beck is accused of going to the restaurant before 5 p.m. Friday looking for his girlfriend, who works there.
Instead, the manager was shot. That person, whose name has not been released, was last reported to be in stable condition at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Golden Triangle. No other injuries were reported.
Beck was wanted for aggravated assault, and police had been searching for a blue 2001 Toyota with the license plate LVQ 512. Police did not say if he was driving that car when he was arrested between Nashville and Knoxville.
In a press conference Saturday afternoon, Shelton thanked all of the agencies involved in the investigation. He also said the safety of the citizens remains a top priority.
Shelton says efforts are being made to get the suspect sent back to Columbus but that likely won't happen until early next week. Right now Beck is charged with aggravated assault with a weapon.
