OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) -- The family of Dominique Clayton met with the mayor of Oxford on Friday where the mayor expressed her support for the family.
“This is one of the most heinous crimes to ever have been committed in Oxford.”
According to the family, Clayton was fatally shot in the head in her own home with her children in the home.
"The mayor is standing with us. The interim chief of police Jeff McCutchen and also Joey East is standing with us. The town of Oxford is standing with us, and this has bought the community together. Everybody wants justice," said a cousin of Clayton.
Matthew Kinne was arrested in connection with the murder that remains under investigation.
"At some point, the truth will come out in the court of law," said Carlos Moore, the family's attorney.
According to Moore, there are three investigations taking place.
The city’s police department is being investigated by the state attorney general, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is handling the criminal investigation, and the family attorney is conducting a separate investigation on the family's behalf.
“The more eyes, the better, and we’re going to unturn every stone until we get to the truth,” said Moore.
The family's attorney also said there may be consequences handed down to any other police officials after the investigation conducted by the attorney general.
When we asked if they expect something to be found against the department in the investigation Moore replied, "Where there is smoke, there is fire."
