WEST POINT, Miss. (WTVA) - A sheriff's deputy in Clay County will be present during services at First United Methodist Church in West Point.
"Across the nation, over the last few years, it seems like our schools and our churches are the most vulnerable when someone wants to attack,” Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott.
Scott said the church approached him with the idea and was later approved.
The deputy on duty will be paid by the church and will be in uniform with a firearm.
"These officers will work with the established church security teams,” Scott said. “They are not only there for security but to help improve on different aspects in the church."
