Chains on power lines reported in Union County

The New Albany Light, Gas and Water Department has reported several incidents which caused large sparks, explosions and power outages.

NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WTVA) - Law enforcement in Union County is trying to find the person responsible for throwing chains onto power lines.

The New Albany Light, Gas and Water Department has reported several incidents which caused large sparks, explosions and power outages.

One incident happened on Thursday, Oct. 14 at 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 348 and County Road 121.

Another incident happened the following day at 3:30 a.m. on County Road 121 near Center Baptist Church.

The person responsible tied string to the chains, one being a chainsaw chain welded together and the other a dog chain.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Northeast Mississippi at 1-800-773-8477 or call the Union County Sheriff’s Office at 662-534-1941.

Anonymous tips can also be submitted using the P3 Tips app.

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 in cash for a tip that leads to an arrest.

After Monday mornings storms, rain chances should remain more spotty throughout the week, with temperatures hovering a little below what we expect for this time of year for the next couple of days. The extended forecast does have more chance for storms, some that could be strong, but timing remains an issue at this point.
