CALHOUN CITY, Miss. (WTVA) - Many Calhoun City residents spent the day cleaning up after last night’s storm blew through the city and caused damage to dozens of homes in the area.
Sunday's storm left a large tree in David Keeton's front yard that crews spent hours trying to remove.
I think the tree- if it had fallen where we were located in the house, we probably wouldn’t have come out of it," said Keeton.
But thankfully Keeton and his wife were able to come out of it.
Amber Morgan lives a few houses down from Keeton, she said trees also fell on her property and added that the damage may be beyond repair.
"I heard the tin ripping off the roof and the glass breaking, I guess that’s when the tree went through the living room window," said Morgan. "I may never get my house fixed.”
Both Morgan and Keeton said they were in a safe place last night.
Keeton recalled those intense moments as the storm rolled through.
“Things started hitting the house...the windows. It lasted, seemed like about 20 or 30 seconds," said Keeton. "By that time, when we came out and looked- it was so loud in the house I couldn’t even hear the tree when it fell."
Some people in the city, including Morgan, still didn't have power Monday night. Although a lot of people were out today trying to clear debris, there’s still a lot of work to be done.
