TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - One of the area's top economic developers will ask Washington to help local furniture makers avoid being hurt by the U.S. trade war with China.
Community Development Foundation President David Rumbarger plans to testify Friday in the nation's capital before President Trump's trade ambassador, Robert Lighthizer.
Rumbarger says he will ask that furniture manufacturers in Northeast Mississippi be exempt from tariffs on fabrics used by those companies.
The Trump administration imposed tariffs on billions of dollars in Chinese imports this year in a move to boost American manufacturing. China retaliated by imposing tariffs on U.S. imports.
