WATER VALLEY, Miss. (WTVA) — Some volunteer firefighters in Yalobusha County found the body of a man whose disappearance triggered a statewide Silver Alert.
Eardth Franklin Samples, 77, of Coffeeville, had not been seen since Friday morning when he left a clinic in Water Valley.
Chief Deputy Thomas West said the firefighters discovered the man's body Sunday in his red Volkswagen in an unnamed creek approximately three miles west of Water Valley off of Highway 32.
West said vegetation covered the car in the runoff that connects to Susie Perry Creek, making it difficult to see from the highway.
He suspects Samples may have had a heart attack that led him to drive his vehicle off of the highway.
The firefighters who found him were part of a massive search that involved family, friends, several volunteer fire departments and law enforcement from Panola, Lafayette, Calhoun and DeSoto counties as well as the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
